What is an active citizen
I have a question. What does it mean to be Irish? Does the state recognise(truly recognise) black people as citizens because I think there seems to be some uncertainty. If we can answer this question, it becomes easier for me to give my view of what an active citizen is.

I think there is a difference in being ethnically Irish and being a citizen. If you are a black person born and raised in Nigeria and have come to Ireland of late I would still view you as Nigerian but an Irish Citizen (if you have status here). However, if you’re born and raised in Ireland you are obviously Irish. So many Irish have emigrated abroad to England and America over the years and have dual citizenship but would always call themselves Irish but American citizens. For me it’s the same difference.
I was also somewhat disappointed to see a front page article on Metro Eireann quoting several non-Irish nationals saying that since they weren’t represented on the taskforce that they felt they weren’t considered citizens. I think this is a very narrow-minded view of how things work. I imagine there are lots of groups who aren’t represented and if we all took this approach the taskforce would become unwieldy. I think we should all co-operate with the work rather than start criticising before the work even begins. Let’s wait until we see the final report of the taskforce before making comments on it’s make up
